The Infamous Cream Cheese Sugar Cookie Recipe

Several people asked about this recipe on Twitter so I'm posting it here for everyone.

This is my family recipe. Possibly created by my mother, I was never sure. But I'll give her full credit. :o)

Cream Cheese Sugar Cookies
2 sticks of butter
1 8oz. Package cream cheese
1 cup medium packed brown sugar
½ cup white sugar
-cream together
2 tsps. Baking powder
1 capful of vanilla (approximately 1 tsp.)
3 eggs
4 cups flour

· mix until smooth
· chill dough
· roll and cut
· bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes

Stained Glass:
Cut out center of cookie with a smaller cookie cutter and fill with crushed jolly ranchers. Bake and let cool on cookie sheet. Place in freezer before trying to remove so the cookie doesn't stick.

Thumb print:
Place a thumb print in the center of the cookie place a Hershey kiss, hug or a piece of fudge in center. Fudge can be topped by pecan.

Frosting:
Either a powdered sugar glaze (powdered sugar and water and a drop of lemon juice combined to the right consistency) or melted chocolate brushed on the cookie and allowed to harden.

  1. YUM. If I didn't have an aversion to rolling dough (far too many failed attempts, sigh) I would SO make these! Hmmm... perhaps I'll see if I can guilt my sister (ahem, house guest for SIX weeks) to make them... *evil grin*

I might try these as jam thumbprints. Do you think that will work as well as chocolate? I like the idea of a strawberry cheesecake cookie.

    Thanks for the recipe!
