POISON is a book about a princess, and a pig, and poison... but more importantly it's about a dream deferred. You see, the author who always wanted to have a book published didn't live to see her dreams. Bridget Zinn died ten months ago of cancer.
A first debut of a book is like most first, you're light headed, and nervous, and scared of what everyone might think, and so excited because it seems like you've been waiting your whole life for this. Maybe I'll be a bit anxious on Bridget's behalf.
If you have a chance go read this wonderful woman's blog. Bridget is someone I found too late. Her blog reveals a cheerful, wonderful, happy person that I wish I'd known. Now all I can do is hold on to what's left of her by enjoying the book she left for all of us.
Kirkus Reviews, wrote, "Don't let the title or cover fool
you! No grimdark teen fantasy or angst-y heroines here; just a frothy
confection of a fairy tale featuring poisoners, princesses, perfumers
and pigs, none of whom are exactly what they appear (except maybe the
pigs)…. Good silly fun—a refreshing antidote to a genre overflowing with
grit and gloom."
If that's not a good enough recommendation look at the pig. You're not going to say no to a book with a pig, are you?
Bridget, I never knew you when you were alive and I regret that oversight. Thank you for sharing your world and your life with us however briefly.
Another book I'd buy just for the cover :) It sounds wonderful, as does Bridget, after perusing her blog. May she rest in God's hands.
