I usually miss out on St. Patrick's Day. I'm not Irish, Catholic, or inclined to drink alcohol so it's always passed me by as the holiday I just wasn't involved in. This is my first St. Patrick's Day that I get to celebrate! Break out the sparkling cider!!!Grab a drink and make yourself comfy, we're going to talk about Green!

I really am envious of those writers who can just sit at their computer and have wonderful novels magically appear. Those lucky people who can write a few books a year without ever once batting an eye.
Even now that I'm technically one of those lucky people who can write and publish a book, I'm green with envy! And mildly baffled.
Don't tell my editor this but EVEN VILLAINS FALL IN LOVE started as a joke.
I was sitting around with some friends talking about the latest superhero movie. "Wouldn't it be funny if an Evil Overlord fell in love with a superhero?" I asked with a laugh. My friends laughed along with me, and over spring break 2011 I set out to write a superhero novella - for fun.
Now, why I chose to write 5k a day during the one week all my children would be home is a mystery to me. Obviously I don't need alcohol to make bad decisions, but, decision made I went for it. I finished most of the novella during that week, and that's almost where it ended.
It was random chance that I saw a submission call for a superhero anthology later that spring. I didn't get into the anthology, but I was lucky enough to get picked up by Breathless Press. A year later, EVFIL is ready for its debut! It comes out April 4th, 2012, one year after it all started and if you comment you might be the lucky person who wins an ARC!

Well my luck has been pretty ok recently. I left my purse in a shopping cart the other night, and we searched and everything and it wasn't found. I went to bed thinking of what I'd have to do the next day, order a new license, cancel the debit card, etc etc. I woke up to a voice mail from the grocery store saying they'd had it turned in, and it even still had everything in it. I'd call it pretty good luck on that one!

ReplyDeleteSt. Patrick's Day is a National Holiday at my house. We get ready for the parade at 7 which starts at 10. Then we go to the in laws and eat, eat, eat. Play games with the kiddos and eat some more. Some members exchange gifts. Then it is off to the pub crawl. Fun times for everyone.
