What kind of reader are you?

I think I need a bigger shelf...

Here's a good mid-week question for you while I'm running around like a chicken with my head cut off today... what kind of reader are you?

Are you a casual reader who stretches a book out so it last one or two months?

Are you the kind of reader who only picks up highly acclaimed books once a year or so?

Are you a daily reader who can't live without your dose of books?

Are you polybibliophile with a different book in every room?

Are you and over-committed reader whose To Be Read pile will kill someone if it ever topples over?

What kind of reader are you?

I'm a binge reader. When I'm free to read I'll read 2-3 books a day, spending hours devouring stories. Right now, I'm on my book-free end of the binge. I'm so busy writing and running after kids that my TBR pile is growing to a dangerous height. The good news is I have a weekend cleared for reading. I will be binging on books!

  1. I'm a binge reader too, with a teetering TBR pile that is thankfully tucked away on my Kindle. I'll read up to five books in a one day sitting, then probably go a month before the next session.

  2. I also binge read, though not as quickly as that. I will go weeks with out reading, then dive back in and read a book or three over a month's time. It normally happens that the last book I read on a binge is either so good I don't want to ruin the afterglow or so bad I want to swear off books for a while.

  3. I read a few chapters a day. Sometimes my to-read pile gets out of hand, but that's mostly because I'm a slow reader.

  4. I'm a compulsive reader. I can't pass something that's written without reading it, a tendency that can annoy anyone who is with me as I will stop to read notices posted on bulletin boards at the grocery store, the headlines of newspapers, the covers of magazines, any sign we pass, and even the signs all over the bus.

Okay, so I manage to keep myself to just skimming the notices most times.

I usually have one book I am reading whenever I can, generally when eating meals as we no longer have a table to sit down at and everyone else wants to be at their computers. I have at least one book in the living room, the one currently reading and often the next one I plan to read, while the rest are in the bedroom.

I've also raided my daughter's collection as we have the same general taste in authors and since she has the books I don't need to buy them.

If I had the money, I'd be buying between six and ten, maybe more, books a month. Unfortunately, I don't so I'm lucky to get to buy one new book every six months. My books are very well read.

  5. I'm the last one, with the giant TBR pile. Lately I've been trying to read a book a week (usually on Sundays) to try to pare my TBR pile down some. Before I started taking my writing seriously I would read all the time, especially in high school. College and grad school really slowed that reading down, which is when the TBR pile really started to build up. I'm working toward a sort of balance in my life. Sundays work for reading because I'm on the 9 a.m. block and I take Sundays off from writing and its related. Day of rest and all that.

  6. I'm an avid reader with limited time. I sneak scenes and chapters in when moments permit. For this reason, and on average, it takes me a month to finish a full length novel. From time to time an opportunity presents itself for me to push everything to the side and dig in, but these are rare.

  7. I'm a binge reader too. My TBR list is on my Kindle, and right now I have 100 books on there. I've only read 5 of them, but I've read those 5 in the last month. I don't read as much as I used to (I used to do 2-3 books in a day) because of the day job & my own writing. But I try to get 1-2 books a week.

  8. I used to read before twitter. Now it takes all my reading time. Well not all. This may be TMI, but I always have a book in the bathroom. It is amazing how much I read in there. I also carry a book in my car and have one by my chair for when TV sucks, which is a lot. Twitter has cut into my reading though. I guess I read in bits and pieces. Lately I am reading books I acquired during my college years that I always said I would read. Why buy new ones when I have tons of them collecting dust.

  9. P.S. Your book was the first one I have bought in 2 0r 3 years new and just for the enjoyment of reading. I am usually on a quest to learn something, I think I need to know.

  10. Ohh, I like "polybibliophile" so I'm that one. I have a geology dictionary in the bathroom; my living room has books on physics and web design. My kitchen has a book on the history of economics. My cookbooks are also in the living room. My bedroom has Stephen King, a history of the Korean War by David Halberstam. My other bedroom contains all of my geography books. And, my library has everything else.
