We all know about the Nigerian Prince scams. This is a fun new twist. I couldn't help but play along!
Feel free to edit the Ambassador's letter (or mine which is missing hyphens) or write your own response in the comments. If you read my information and don't get the jokes please Google the phone number and address. Don't blame me if you spend the rest of the day singing. :)
Note: If you get an email asking for your private information in exchange for money just say no. It's a scam. No long-lost relative or desperate prince wants to give you cash. I'm sorry. But they don't.

Dear Mr. Knight,
Thank you so much for your letter! I've been worrying about money for ages. The bill collectors keep calling. This is an answer to all my lotto dreams!
Please send me your SSN, bank routing number, bank account number, log in name, and password so that I can arrange the transfer of funds and pay my taxes (I don't want to get in trouble!).
And, may I also say that I run a freelance editing business. If you'd like to hire me to correct your spelling and punctuation so you don't sound like an illiterate five year old I'd be happy to work for the very reasonable rate of $50USD/hour.
I can't wait for the money!

Please i want to inform you that your fund was brought to my desk this morning because the SECRETARY OF UNITED NATION here in Benin Republic said that they will divert your compensation fund to the Government Treasury account just because you failed to pay for their fee of your fund which is just $120.00 usd only.
But i told them to wait until i hear from you today so that i will know the reason why you rejected such amount of money $1.5m which is a compensation from United Nation and will change your life just because of $120.00 usd
I want your urgent response as soon as you receive this email and explain to me the reason why you should abandon your fund or if you don't need it then i can change your name to another person so that the corrupt Government officials of Benin Republic will not claim this money for their selfish interest.
Oh, I've had three or four different versions of this. Or the begging letters. Or the notification of my bank account being closed if I don't update my details via their attachment (usually with a bank I've never even heard of). The english is usually laughable. :)
ReplyDeleteHow could you pass up a deal like this! I have already emailed them and told them if you don't want it I would be happy to take it! Wow...wish I got these kinds of emails, think of all the money just waiting to be claimed...
ReplyDeleteYou want his address? You could write him and let him know that the letter was sent to me in error, but all you can do is pay in pesos...
DeleteYes, I know you don't have pesos in Canada (not as legal tender), but the Canadian dollar currently has too much value to make it a good joke.
