SFR Brigade

If you check out my profile you'll notice that I've seemed to spawn a new blog. Don't worry, this isn't my poppet. SFR Brigade is the brain child of, well, several people, but one of them happens to belong to my writing group.

Laurie has been gently nudging me to admit the unthinkable: I write romance.

Really, all I want from a book is to giggle while things go BOOM! If the heroine happens to rescue the dude in distress and steal a kiss while she's at it, I'm cool. The fact that many of my characters seem to regard clothes as an optional accessory (weapons are, obviously, required for all events), some of the characters are a little cavalier in their relationships, and that most of my writing ends with Happily Ever After isn't something that tossed me in the romance category. At least not in my mind.

It's sci-fi, with a bit of kissing.

Science Fiction Romance is sci-fi, with a bit of kissing. Some bump and grind, or heavy innuendo and smoldering glances, to go with your boom.

So why I may be a little short for a stormtrooper, I have joined the SFR Brigade. Bringing light, hope, explosions, and explosive relationships, to a bookstore or e-reader near you.

Like a good little Borg-child I'm going to encourage you to check the site out, and consider joining our unstoppable force.

Why?
1- Believe it or not, if you read this blog, you probably already read and enjoy SFR. I'm not talking about hardcore, X-rated, erotica (although it could go that way if you like). SFR can be as simple and timeless as the Vorkosigan series, or the MageWorld series, or... honestly the only sci-fi novel I can think of that doesn't have a touch of romance might be the Blue Mars trilogy.

I'm probably missing a few of the hardcore military SF works, but most modern science fiction novels have a touch of romance. Even if it is discreet, modest, and sneaked in without the author's permission.

2- Writers need communities to plot with. Admit it, world domination is so much more fun with someone cheering you on from the sidelines. So why stop with taking over just one world? Join the SFR Brigade and take over the universe! Wait... that was reason three...

3- (Really Reason Two) You need ideas. You need a place to brainstorm. And you need other authors who work in your field to help you learn the ins and outs of this genre. SFR Brigade has the full range of authors, from published award winners to newbies working on their first darling novel. Today That kind of inspiration is always welcome.

4- It's free. We all know FREE is a fabulous thing!

5- Contests, networking, readers, marketing, cool people, fun ideas, and virtual launch parties for all the latest books in the SFR genre. How could you say no to that?

Still don't believe me? Read Laurie's Five Reasons Why You Should Join the SFR Brigade post, and then tell them Liana sent you. ;o)

  1. LOL - congrats on admitting you have a romance "element". It's the hardest part, you know...

I write romance - but not SF. I don't even read much SF, to be honest...I just like reading your blog & think you're cool. :-)

So I'll decline the invite, but congrats for finding such a wonderful community for your genre. It really is amazing how wonderful genre-centered communities can be!

  3. Jamie - What elements do you like in a story? I bet I could find some sci-fi that you'd enjoy.

    Stephanie - :o)

  5. I do read some sci-fi...just not a lot. I don't particularly care for big, epic stories (couldn't finish Dune), but I like Asimov, Orson Scott Card, and Olivia Butler (I think she's considered SF, right?).

I don't believe I've read any of yours...will have to see if you have some samples lying around here. ;-)
