NaNoWriMo 2008

Scipio "Skippy" Valensius is the oldest son of a grocer, and he has big dreams. He wants to become a true hero. But real life, and a limited budget, interfere and Skippy has to donwsize his dream. All he can afford is the local community college for Sidekicks. So he goes, determined to be the best side kick to the greatest hero ever.

When graduation day comes everything is perfect, Skippy even has a job offer with the great Hero who is setting out on a quest to find a magic (I don't yet) to save the kingdom from destruction. The journey sets out well, but the Hero is grumpy and soon Skippy finds himself jobless. Despondent and desperate to make his mark Skippy turns to the last job available... Evil Overlord.

With the help of his new goblin ally, Nanoc the Civilized, Skippy sets out to overthrow an aging warlord, take over an army of orcs, and then... take his home town by storm!

The Misadventures of Skippy the Warlord, a maybe YA fantasy (I haven't decided yet) will be complete at somewhere around 70,000 sometime in November 2008.

NaNo ought to be a lot of fun on the reading front--your novel, Inky's, the DO's... mm. B-)

  3. I've never written YA but I don't think I can spin this idea out into a full adult novel. The MC just isn't mature enough to handle the pressure.

But, it will be fun. It will give me another finished manuscript to polish one day. And the idea just entertains me beyond reason. Color coded imps!

We'll see how it goes. I've generated the idea, but not a real outline or anything. I'll do that at the end of October. :o)
