Are You Hooked? Hooks an agent....

Authoress, the leading lady on the blog Miss Snark's First Victim is hosting another Are You Hooked? contest next week. These are fun contests where anyone who please can send in the first 250 words of their WIP, pot boiler, whatever. Everyone then turns around and comments on what's been posted.

July 12th Authoress has promised a new contest and a prize- a literary agent posing as Secret Agent to come and comment on everyone's work.

How Authoress wrangled a live agent (presumably busy wading through slush piles and calling editors already) I do not know. Whether she bribed this agent with a promise of a new client, I don't know. I wouldn't be surprised, I think there are several people who regularly post who are ready for a publisher. I'm not one of them but there are a few who are there in their careers.

Who is the agent? That's a secret too.

What am I posting? You tell me and we'll both know because right now I'm in a panic. Logically the best thing to post at this point if the first page of DOJ. But it's rough and I haven't actually picked a first page. So, grr on that. Ghost is the other option.

Tell you what....... we'll have our own little 4th of July weekend posting party and decide from there. Tomorrow I'll do a "First Lines" post. The first paragraph of anything you already have written can be posted in the comments section and from there everyone who reads (looks at the proverbial empty chairs with cricket) can crit.

  2. I'm not sure what to post for the contest either. I wish I knew more about the agent and what age group the represent. Because Authoress belongs to Verla Kay's, I'm going to go out on a limb and hope the secret agent will entertain YA/MG, but...who really knows?

  3. Authoress is being amazingly tight lipped about who the guest agent is. She has assured those asking that there isn't a reason to slant your writing to any one genre or another so I'm hoping it's an agent who looks at everything.

    I suppose we'll find out soon :o)

  4. Hey, I ain't no cricket! :D;):P

Ack, people are even considering things like which /genre/ to enter? Me, I was just wondering how much polish is expected! O:)
