Evan doesn't have everything he wants. Giving up his life as Doctor Charm (author of the Villain's Diary) and become a dedicated stay-at-home-Dad so his wife can return to life as the superhero Zephyr Girl isn't all soap operas and bonbons. There are days being at home is the hardest job in the world. This is one of those days:
"Mommy's in a fight!"The project page for this WIP has been updated so you can catch up with all the snippets, pictures, and costumes. Go check up with your favorite super villain HERE.
Picking up Maria so he could claim a spot on the couch Evan watched as Zephyr Girl whipped around a giant lizard thing, the unholy offspring of Barney the Dinosaur and Godzilla. Zephyr Girl darted in, pulling a trip wire past the reptilian legs, and dodged a heavy fist.
His heart skipped a beat. Zephyr Girl didn't move fast enough and she bounced off a building, her neck snapping back with an audible crack.
"Mom!"

- post ‘em on Sunday
Wow, maybe her son shouldn't have been watching that. I'm sure that will be traumatic for him. I hope she's okay in real life.
ReplyDeleteLove your descriptions of the show. They're very playful.
What you've posted from this story has been amazing so far. Great action descriptions. Maybe we could get a hint more of emotion so we can feel what he should be feeling?? Just a thought, but then I just remembered this is only 6 and you may have that already! LOL
ReplyDeleteI love your excerpts for this story. I would love to buy it. Is it available?
ReplyDeleteJessica - That's what Dad decides to. The TV goes off while Mom battles monsters.
ReplyDeleteKathleen - Most the emotion is in the next few sentences, and this is still an early draft. I'll make sure it comes through in the end.
Rebecca - I love you for saying that! This isn't out yet. It's not even 100% finished yet. But I'm planning to submit it the Samhain Superhero anthology this fall. If that doesn't work I'll shop it around and see what feedback I get. :o)
oh, very nice! Hope you get it pubbed soon!
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful. I hope she bounces right back up so her kids see that. Caught my breath on the last line.
ReplyDeleteI love that he has to stay at home with the kids while she gets to go out and be a superhero.
ReplyDeleteThis is great!
ReplyDeleteSounds like an interesting twist on the superhero theme! Great six, Liana.
ReplyDeleteToo fun! Intriguing snippet.
ReplyDeleteLove the role reversal in this one. (I would, huh? LOL) Love the original situation and ideas behind this one. Hope to read more of it.
ReplyDeleteReminds of of Mr. Mom. When will it be available.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful scene to establish what life is like, and possibly also be an incident that spurs the rest of the action. Does formerly evil Dad have to go out and rescue supermom? Great stuff!!
ReplyDeleteLindsay - Not for a while yet.
ReplyDeleteJessica - I can't tell! That might ruin the ending!
Ouch!
ReplyDeleteYikes! Am hoping the kid's seen enough of these kinds of scenes that she isn't traumatized for life. Dad had a tough job, too, it seems. Fascinating situation and world you've created here!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait the read the entire thing once it's published. This is such a fun story and the scenes and details hook you right in.
ReplyDeleteI like this--fun and different.
ReplyDeleteFun six! I love writing superheroes.
ReplyDeleteAll my best,
Allure Van Sanz
Oh wow! Those kids are gonna grow up with some unusual childhood trauma. XD
ReplyDeleteVery creative. But the poor little guy! Hope the Mom is ok
ReplyDeleteCan't get my head around evil villain as stay-at-home Dad! Great twist. But I hope SuperMom's okay! Loved the six.
ReplyDeleteHadn't heard of Six Sentence Sunday until seeing it on your blog. Going to have to try this next week!
ReplyDeleteScott
Fun. I can picture the scene in my mind.
ReplyDeleteInteresting - unique combo of characters and plot line
ReplyDeleteThis is a unique twist on good versus evil. Hope Mom's not seriously injured!
ReplyDeleteWow! Quite the family TV night :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a very heart-pounding way to end the six, and the kid adds poignancy.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait until you finish this story. I've been very hooked just by these snippets.
Ouch! That has got to hurt. Love the action here!
ReplyDeleteI always wondered what would happen if a superhero/ine had a 'normal' family at home.
ReplyDeletePippa Jay - The answer is, "Nothing good." :o)
ReplyDelete:-O
ReplyDeleteWHat an evil place to end the snippet ;)
