Something Positive
I woke up this morning to a news feed full of negativity. There are the classic standbys (recession, Syria, politics of any form), the rather trite but ongoing mainstream misogyny (how dare women have opinions! how dare you wear clothes different than what men imagine! how dare you own a vagina!), and the now familiar Geek Debate (how dare women read books! how dare women like comics! how dare women object to us treating them like chattel and abusing them! Bad furniture, no opinion for you!).
Part of me wanted to jump into the fray. My blood was boiling before 7am and that's never a good sign.
After starting and deleting three different blog posts I decided what I really needed was to see something positive. Something like the #BePositiveHour that circles Twitter every afternoon thanks to Terrie Wolf.
I was thinking we could come up a list of things that make us happy, give us joy, or make us grateful we're alive. I'd like to hit 100. Maybe we could even go higher. And every time disaster strikes we'll pull the list out and start adding to it again. Sound good?
The rules are simple: play nice and number your answers.
You can leave as many joyful things as you can name, just make sure they're numbered and make sure they won't hurt someone else (no dead teddy bear jokes or anything). Ready?
I'll start...
1) Sunshine! I love a sunny day.
2) Laughter! I love to hear people happily laughing at good jokes and about cute kids.
3) Flowers! Bright little bursts of color everywhere.
4) Books! I love to read.
5) Sharks! Because, why not? Sharks are cool.
Your turn, start with number 6 and leave your answers below. :)
Have a joyful day!
Liana
