Gambarimashou - Keep up the fighting spirit.

Signs of Hope in Sendai

This post from a school teacher in Japan has me in tears. It's the sweetest thing I've read in years about people in tragedy. I don't have any family in Japan. All my friends are out. I don't think I have any more claim to Japanese ancestry than the average person, but I am so proud of these people.

In one week they had an earthquake, a tsunami, a volcano, and two nuclear meltdowns.

Any of those tragedies would be enough to devolve most societies to nothing more than chaos. Yet here these people are, thinking of others first, sharing what they have, caring for each other. They are living the highest ideal of human kind. Achieving through patient suffering the peace and charitable condition that every religion strives to teach.

I am in awe of what they are doing. I'm so proud of them for fighting on. I wish everyone could read this post, and try to be like this when they hit their next tragedy/trial/rough day.

  1. It is inspiring. They have been so calm about everything, and stand united in the face of adversity. Which is why I'm trying to do my bit to help by putting together an aid anthology. Please check it out:
