Friday Random

Random Yummy Cake of the Week: Chocolate raspberry with dark chocolate frosting, fresh raspberries, and a drizzle of white chocolate. That cake didn't last at all!!!

Random Fun of the Week: My twin and favorite critter came to visit with her husband for three days. We had a blast cooking, talking, and writing. Having another author in the house for that long spawned a few new book ideas and several ideas for posts that will be appearing in the coming weeks.

Random Progress of the Week: Progress has been exceptionally random here.

I spent time writing in three different pot boilers. I started to edit UDS. And I did some world building for another idea. None of that is bad, it's just not focused progress. It is a lot like how I was when I started writing.

When I first decided I needed to write every day I was very random and spastic in my approach. A few hundred words here, play with an idea here, I dabbled with everything and was finishing nothing. That's why rewriting UDS to the bitter end was such a big goal for me. I tend to wimp out when things get rough and you just can't do that if you want to have a successful (ie more than one book) career.

The only reason I'm letting myself meander like this right now is that I do know I need a break from UDS before I edit. Otherwise it's going to come out sounding exactly the same and nothing will get fixed.

Random Baby News: Baby Boy should be arriving some time next week. Automated posts will keep appearing for the next two or three weeks. Once I'm back home and settled I'll post an announcement on the blog.

Random Question(s) of the Week:
Is it possible to be too devoted to your characters?

Where do you stand on the whole "My Book is My Baby" idea?

Do you secretly love your antagonist more than your protagonist?

  1. I'm so excited about Baby Boy's upcoming arrival!

Alex Field has info about a sci-fi contest on his blog today.

  2. Grins excited for you re/baby. Hope and pray everything goes smoothly and FAST. :]

*I want the recipe for that cake.

    * I have the opposite problem. By the time I'm done writing a book. I hate it and all my characters. Same thing is true when I'm editing.

That said... I told myself that September is my deadline for getting back into editing a novel I sent out and had problems with at the beginning of the year. Yet, I have a hankering to pick it up sooner. I think I've successfully gotten over my hatred and am ready to be interested and 'into' the project again.

  3. It's hard not to have the "book is my baby" complex. When I first sent out queries, I felt like I was holding my child up asking "do you think she's pretty/smart/totally awesome?" But I had to get over it pretty quick as those rejections started rolling in. : )

Good luck with your REAL baby's arrival!

  4. My book is not my baby. My book is a surly teenager who I only love when it's not conscious, and I have to whip it constantly to behave.

(Also, I think it might be adopted.)

(Also, it steals money from my purse for cigs, and it parties when I go away over the weekend.)

  5. Beth, you are awesome!

Yay for baby! Hope everything goes well and quickly. Good luck!

Nope. My book is not my baby. It's something that holds a special place in my heart, but that's about it. I love it, but not as a child. Yes. I totally love my antagonist right now. :D
