Wednesday Workout- "We Aim to Misbehave."

Q. Why is this late?
A. Remember last week? The ER run? The 3 yr-old is still sick. We were back at the Doctor's office for more tests. Yay, fun. :P

Today's Workout:

Find the catchphrase!

The catchphrase is one sentence either on the cover or in the text that stands out to your audience. It catches their attention, intrigues them, and looks good on a t-shirt. Do you need a catchphrase to sell your book? No, some books have a blurb and zero fun one-liners in text. But the books that get talked about and gain popularity all have one.

Why?

I have no clue. It's a trend I'm dissecting. It's possible the catchphrase is the evolution of available writing that appeals to a broad base. It is also possible that a catchphrase means more people talking about your books, more merchandise, and therefore more sales.

Homework:
Give me your title, brief 3 sentence description, and a catchphrase for your book.

Example From Real Life:
Title- Firefly
Blurb- After a failed revolution Malcolm Reynolds and his war buddy team up to start a merchant crew running hard to find and blackmarket goods to civilized worlds. When one haul nets a rogue genetic experiment and puts them at odds against the government they already hate Malcolm and crew must learn to trust each other and survive (or something like that- I'm ad libbing a bit- you couldn't tell could you?)
Catchphrase- We Aim To Misbehave

Forget the blurb, I love the series for the catchphrase and the hot doctor. :o)

  1. Catchphrase Idea:

Nothing like death in the morning. Just how I wanted to start my day.

That's two sentences, so maybe cut it down to one...

Nothing like death to start my day.

    Or something like that.

  4. I love Firefly.

Catchphrase for my own stories? Not something I'd ever looked at. Hmm. I will have to work on that.

  5. Yes...I love a challenge.

    How about:

    "Hope you like adjectives."

    :-D

Ugh...I will be back when I can think of something good.
