Why our children have problems...

Sorry, I don't usually rant, but this has me seeing red.

Get Michelle Obama's arms... an actual article from CNN.

Wow, what a way to objectify and dehumanize and intelligent woman. Are the editors at CNN all that misogynistic that the only way they can relate to Mrs. Obama is through turning her into a stack of body parts, fashion essays, and photo ops?

How about an article on how to Michelle's degree?

I don't see eye-to-eye with our current administration on a lot of things (I didn't see eye-to-eye with the last administration either), but I hate to see an intelligent woman treated like this. She isn't eye candy people! She's a human being. An individual with a functioning brain.

People wonder why our teenagers are out having premarital sex, throwing up everything they eat, and panicking over their looks, here's why - the national media says men can be smart, but women can't. Articles like this underline the idea that a woman's worth is tied to her looks.

I won't even get started on the blogs about the First Lady's wardrobe choices.

This is why I write sci-fi. I could write a character with four arms and no legs (a la the quaddies from the Vorkosigan saga), or a 900 pound woman and still have a great character because I can sell the readers on her brain. I don't have to make a character physically flawless to make them likable, engaging, and intelligent.
