I woke up this morning with a scene burning a hole in my brain. I rushed to the computer, typed the rough, and realized I was only 40 some chapters (and a full book) away from where that scene fits. My characters hate me.
So I planned revenge: I was going to write all the way up to that chapter today!
(waits for the laughter to stop)
Yeah, let's see.... my average chapter is between 3000 and 4000 words. I have another 13 chapters left in DOJ before I can start the next book, so.... that's what? Only 120,000 words. On good days I usually write around 2,000. During NaNo I think I wnet slightly over 3k on day. 120k would probably earn me a one-way ticket to the funny farm.
Still, I did make progress, here's what it looks like:
Demands of Justice-
Progress: currently editing Draft 3
chapters edited: 1-8
chapters currently being rewritten: 8-13
still untouched: 14 onwards
Bryson Anomaly-
Progress: incomplete, currently working on Draft 2 + Last 3 Chapters
chapters edited: 1-3
chapters currently being rewritten: 4-10
still untouched: 11 onwards
Loyal to the Death-
Progress: unfinished
Word Count: under 6k
I also have a short story I intend to drag out, edit, and find a home for later this week. That's a big step for me.
I also have a long list of potboilers that I intend to drag out and put back on the fire at some point. Some might be NaNo novels (yes plural- I might as well make the most of the insanity), other I'm considering scrapping for content, and others are just chapters away from being something serious. We'll see what happens.
More than anything I need time to get all this writing done. But, for now, I'm in love with my characters in DOJ again, things are clicking in my head, and I'm going to try to get to chapter 15 by tonight!
Sounds like you're making some great progress! I'm impressed you are able to juggle multiple projects--this is something I am no good at. For me, it's one novel at a time when I edit. I even struggle if I have an editing project to finish while drafting a new novel. My brain just can't cope!
ReplyDeleteMy brain can't stay on one project long enough to finish one without interuption. I spend the bulk of my time on DOJ but I'll wander off for a day or two to write something else or exdit something else.
ReplyDeleteI'm very good at multi-tasking and very bad at focusing on one specific task.
I'm glad you're in love again :) I never stopped, and can't wait to see what happens next %-)

ReplyDeleteHave you ever thought about how scary it would be if, one day, the universe turned upside down and suddenly our characters were the writers and we were the characters?
I'd be in a boatload of trouble. How about you?
Ah, the insanity of writing! Hello, Just Me. Thanks for visiting Sling Words. Good luck with those characters!
ReplyDeleteJoan- thank you for returning the visit!
