Friday Random- Happy Fourth of July Everyone!

Random Personality Test of the Week: Which Superhero are You?

You are The Flash! Fast, athletic and flirtatious.
http://www.thesuperheroquiz.com/

Funny. Who's the flash?

Random Quote of the Week: The Muse is willing but the flesh is weak. - Hilary M.

Random Phone Call of the Week: Gwen! My old study buddy from college called up. We live less than 50 miles from each other again! This is exciting! (You can tell because I keep using the exclamationg point, can't you?) I met Gwen in a business writing class that had absolutely nothing to do with my major, taught you the wrong way to write for my field, and was hidesouly dull. But Gwen showed up early to class one day and so I cornered her and we started talking (I'm a bit of an extrovert, I bet you couldn't tell.). She's very cool, has horses, bought-fixed-sold houses to pay for college, lived at a Hindu temple, and just finished her masters degree and is working for the state of Florida checking out all their state parks and mapping invasive species (go Brazilian Peppers!). So, she's headed to Mexico for a friends wedding and we're going to try to get together some weekend in the end of July. Hooray!

Success of the Week: Eldest is spelling, stringing together semi-coherent sentences, and beginning to read. I've been worried. She's almost six and isn't reading where I was, and I really don't know how to help her. We do homework together every morning and I think it's coming together.

Biggest Time Waseter This Week: Puzzle Pirates... you play puzzles and pretend to be a pirate. That about says it all. When I can't figure out what to write (or give up in despair because I delete things) I like to play this game.

Best Yoga Move of the Week: Moon salutes for bedtime. I even got my girls to do some calming evening yoga with me. Small and Pink makes a a very cute moon and star.

Biggest Oops! of the Week: Deleting Chapter 3 of DoJ. I'm still stalling on rewriting that. Blech!

Big Plans for Next Week: Editing, posting more of DoJ for review of Critique Circle, and doing a "Ending Lines" contest. After all, once you get someone to read your first chapter what is it that makes them move on to chapter 2? It's the urgency of your last line, the feeling that you Must Know Right Now! what is going to happen next...... I think we should definetly explore that concept. More to follow on Monday.

Favorite Opening Lines From Our Contest:
(be aware the prize is me nagging you for more of your work, prefferably published and on my shelf)

Thirty years ago, the moon finally hatched.
- Sparky (who's full name I can remember the spelling of)

Anton joined his brothers in the dimly lit study of their loft. Guntram, the youngest at eighteen, lounged in the window seat, long legs somehow managing to fit in front of him. He flicked the remains of a cig out the cracked window that let in the muggy night air.
- Mary (I have a soft spot for muggy nights filled with magic)

“Heather, you have something of mine.”
- Inkblot (just creepy)

Thank you all for reading and participating! Have a Happy Fourth of July! Drive safe! Be situationally aware! Enjoy the fireworks! Write!

  1. Happy Fourth!

I'm not so good with my chapter cliffhangers... I tend to tie mine off. So next week's contest could be good for me. :-)

Thanks for the chance to share my openings. It was fun reading and critiquing everyone's and I got some good feedback.
