Confessions of a Black Friday Virgin

I have a confession to make: I have never gone shopping on Black Friday. NEVER.

Not once have I braved the mobs to find the perfect sale. Not once have I been tempted to risk life and limb for this year's Must Have toy. Not once have any of my friends threatened to disown me if I didn't accompany them to the Grab It And Get It sale at a local boutique.

This year... I plan to sleep in, take a leisurely breakfast, skim through some blogs, and chuckle evilly, safe in the knowledge that my holiday shopping is done, my presents are wrapped, and the only thing standing between me and the knowledge of a job well done is a trip the post office for stamps. Don't hate me.

It's not that I couldn't go out and spend money if I wanted to, it's that the sales are never for things I need. But, I'll tell you a secret, I could be tempted to lose my Black Friday V-card if there was a really great furniture sale. I've been couchless for two years now. There was an Incident, and not to name names, but I blame the Dog. Two large mastiffs play fighting in a living room can wreck even the sturdiest of couches.

So, if the furniture store had a really good sale, like "The time on the clock is your price!" I'd be there to grab my couch at 1:01am. I'd be there even earlier if they used military time. That's the one thing I'd risk the Black Friday Fanatics for.

Now, be a good sport and leave your Black Friday Confession -or- the one thing you'd brave Black Friday for in the comments box below for a chance to win a $15 gift certificate to Sock Dreams and a copy of EVEN VILLAINS FALL IN LOVE as well as the Grand Prize And don't forget to leave your email address! If we don't have your email, we can't contact you with your fabulous prize!

2nd Grand Prize: A $75 Amazon or B&N Gift Card

EVEN VILLAINS FALL IN LOVE

A super villain at the top of his game must choose between the world he wants and the woman he loves.

If you believe the rumors you know that Doctor Charm, the wickedly sexy super villain, retired in shame seven years ago after his last fight with the super hero Zephyr Girl. The fact that the charming Evan Smith—father of four and husband of the too-beautiful-to-be-real Tabitha—bears a resemblance to the defeated Doctor is pure coincidence. And, please, ignore the minions.
Everything is perfect in the Smith household, until Tabitha announces her return to work as a super hero. Evan was hoping to keep her distracted until after he rigged the presidential election, but—genius that he is—Evan has a backup plan. In his basement lab, Evan has a machine whose sole purpose is keeping Tabitha hungry for him.
But children and labs don’t mix. The machine is broken, and Tabitha storms out, claiming she no longer knows him. World domination takes a back seat to meeting his daughters’ demands to get Mommy back right now. This time his genius isn’t going to be enough—he’s going to need both his evil alter-ego, and the blooming super abilities of his children to save his wife. But even his most charming self might not be enough to save their marriage.

  1. I'd brave Black Friday for a really REALLY good sale on video games. It's the only thing my younger brother asks for, but they tend to be pretty pricey.

Thanks for the giveaway! (I <3 Sock Dreams)

  8. I'm not a Black Friday shopper. I don't believe that shopping should ever be a full contact sport. I spend the day baking cookies with my kiddos instead.

  11. I've braved Black Friday a total of 3 times. The first and third were for necessities, not Christmas gifts. The second was just to accompany a friend of mine. I didn't buy anything that time.

  21. My Black Friday confession is that I would much rather make gifts for people! Or buy from small business owners. I hate crowds so there's no way I would go out in one just to save a few bucks!

  23. I got elbowed in the nose by a grandma the year that Tickle Me Elmo was a big deal. Yup. Beat up by a woman 40 years my senior. This year I slept in and celebrated not crowding into lines like some sort of cattle.

  24. I really want to read your book! I'm also obsessed with socks so this is one of my favorite stops on the hop so far. :)

As for my Black Friday confession: My first Black Friday ever was to get the original Furby. I was in line at 3AM which by today's standards would be too late but then it was super early. The line got so crazy that the police had to be called. Good times! But we did get a Furby. Then promptly forgot it about a week later.

  27. This is the BEST way to spend Black Friday. Sitting at home, hopping with old friends and making new ones. I can't handle the crowds anymore so I only do Black Friday shopping online if I do any. I tend to pick up gifts throughout the year so come November I'm finished. That way I can spread out the purchasing and not spend a fortune at the time of the year when my job is at its slowest and my paycheck is at its lowest. Thanks for being part of the hop and for the chance to win. <^_^>

  28. Ha! I'm not a huge black friday fan (ok, some of those deals are good. But I hate standing around in the cold), but my family is. So I'll be a good sport for some of the day then back home for lunch while they literally shop till they drop. I'm enjoying relaxing on my couch right now and making additions to my to read list.

  32. I haven’t done any Black Friday shopping yet – I only left the house this morning to take my daughter and her friends to a movie (Rise of the Guardians was lots of fun!). The only thing I would brave the crowds for would be a rock-bottom price on a Dyson vacuum. Thanks for being in the hop!

  44. LOL I used to own two Mastiffs and needless to say my couch or most of my drywall in my living room didn't last long! The picture you posted makes them look so innocent. That could be dangerous.

I went once to Black Friday and the ONLY thing that would make me brave it again would be a kick butt sale on one night with Ian Somerhalder. Since I do not see that ever happening, I think my ventures on Black Friday are over.

Thanks so much for being a part of the hop and for the giveaway.

    Happy Holidays,

  45. I love Black Friday shopping, but this year I waited until the store was almost empty and I still got all the specials on my list. I live in a small town and even though there are a couple hundred people in Wal-Mart, most are friendly and they even say excuse me when they push you to get to what they want. I would never shop in the places they show in the news, way too scary., but in my town, I try to go every year.

  46. This is the first year I haven't gone. I always get 90% of my shopping done and it's always super easy. I plan it out and have backup items in case first choice is out. I'm in, I'm out, and I'm done! This year the money's tight so I will have to be a little more crafty with my purchases. ;-) Thanks for the giveaway!

  53. I'm crazy for Black Friday. I worked retail for a long time, so I HATED it then, but once I got away from the madness of perpetually folding t-shirts I got to embrace the fun side of it :)

Most memorable was the year my son turned 3. My husband was deployed, but there was a PowerWheel Jeep at Walmart on sale for $75. Come hell or high-water my baby was getting that jeep! I bundled him up and we stood in line for 4 hours. When the clock struck 'sale time' it was pandemonium. People totally disregarded the line and Momma Bear had to start throwing elbows at wayward shoppers. There was a man in line in front of us that I had been talking to the whole time and when everything hit the fan he was kind enough to 'toss' one of the jeeps to me. I don't remember his name, but he was my hero that day.
