How did that happen?

I'm a bit shocked, to tell the truth. And very humbled. Ninety percent of being an author is having an ego as self-centered as a gyroscope that takes it for granted that everyone wants to know what you're thinking. I haven't acheived that just yet.

But having 100 followers calls for a celebrations of some kind. We need to do something!

Breaking out the DJ and disco ball just won't work. I can't fit all of you in my house. I'd say we could all go out for drinks, but I don't drink and I don't think any of you live close enough to visit. That leaves a contest....

Hmmm....

I could give away a book....

But what if you already have it?

*insert surprised expression here*

AMAZON!

$10 Amazon Gift Card Giveaway
Perfect! 100 followers = $10 prize. When I hit 200 followers we'll repeat with the a $20 gift card. Even better, you can use the gift card to get a book you don't have. And since Amazon e-mails gift cards (nice, right?) you don't have to give me your snail mail address.

RULES: We must always have rules.

1. You must be a follower. I know, it's a bit cultish, but you have to be a follower to win.
EDIT: You must be a follower by the time I do the random drawing. So you can join now and enter and be qualified. :o)

2. Leave a comment on this post telling two things: What post or kind of post is your favorite? -and- What is your favorite quote from a book? Include the title and author!

3. The deadline for entry will be next Friday (January 29th) at 1am Eastern Standard Time. You must enter on this post. E-mail, Twitter, or singing telegrams will not be accepted. However, I will make special allowances for smoke signals. If you manage to enter by smoke signal I will suitably impressed. You'll at least get an honorable mention.

P.S. Welcome to the insanity. ;o)

  1. Squeee!

Can you see my smoke signals from across the pond? My Muse is helping fuel the flames. As are the incendiaries I accidentally put on the fire.

    *wipes sweat off face*

Temperature is soaring. I might melt soon.

  2. Yuna.... No... Sorry. Something about curvature of the Earth and not being on the Atlantic seaboard? You'll have to do a regular entry the old fashioned way.

  3. Can't blame me for trying :)

Favourite book...isn't to hand. Will enter at the weekend.

  6. What post or kind of post is your favorite? - I love posts that make me think about writing in a whole new way!

What is your favorite quote from a book? Include the title and author! -

Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter—tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther. . . . And then one fine morning— So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

    Yes, a classic. Sorry.

  7. I'm a new-ish follower, so I don't know which types of posts are my favorite yet.

As for my favorite quote from a book, it's Heinlen's STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND.

"Faith strikes me as intellectual laziness."

  8. Since I just joined, I'll sit out the contest, but congrats on all your followers! :)

  9. I've been a follower for multiple weeks, (so my time sense is iffy, is that a crime? Is it?) and I have been loving the friday randoms, and practical tips like your "cutting word count" post a week or so ago.

And my favourite quote. Of all time? Uh, that might be, uh, hard. I declare that it is TOO hard, and instead I shall post two favourite quotes that are close to hand.

"Don't you ever have an attack of nerves?"
"Sure I do. When I have the time for it. Which isn't now."
-Have Space Suit, Will Travel, by Robert A. Heinlein

"We are going to find Victor," Emma grated out, "and then you are either going to marry his butt, or we are going to turn him in and collect a reward."
"You think the cops have a bounty on him?"
"I didn't say it had to be the cops."
-Cathy's Book: If Found Call 650-266-8233, by Sean Stewart and Jordan Weisman

    Am I still eligible? *hopeful*

  11. Am a follower, but I can't think of a favourite quote right now. Will come back later.

  12. I'm a follower! Since smoke signals wouldn't work..

...I adore the Friday Random posts. They always make me smile at the start of the weekend.

Am I allowed a small pardon on the favourite quote? I no longer have the exact quote, From Mercedes Lackey's Silver Gryphon (or Black Gryphon, or White Gryphon - I can't remember which one it was in!) But it was from the gryphon Skandranon (sp?) who said something to the effects of 'Act first, ask permission later'.

If that doesn't count I'll go hunt down another book :)

  14. My favourite posts are posts that help and improve my skill of writing. There is always room to improve.

My favourite quote is from Shatter by Michael Robotham.
'There is a moment when all hope disappears, all pride is gone, all expectation, all faith, all desire. I own that moment. It belongs to me. That's when I hear the sound, the sound of a mind breaking.
It's not a loud crack like when bones shatter or a spine fractures or a skull collapses. And it's not something soft and wet like a heart breaking. It's a sound that makes you wonder how much pain a person can endure; a sound that shatters memories and lets the past leak into the present; a sound so high that only the hounds of hell can hear it.
Can you hear it? Someone is curled up in a tiny ball crying softly into and endless night.'

  15. Wow, congratsifuls on the following! You cult leader, you! Go, go, go! *\o/*

Right, so, fav types of post. Hmm. Ponder, ponder. Ponder Stibbons!

...Yes, it's late, and I'm tired. However did you guess?! *mock shock*

Erm, I have to agree with Yuna, in part. My favs are the Friday Randoms, and the science posts. Science is awesome! :D

As for my fav quote, like Snazel, I declare this Too Hard To Mediate. So, I shall content with giving you a quote from one of the best books I've read recently, The Handmaiden's Tale, by Margaret Atwood. YOU SHOULD READ IT!! Because it is shiny, and awesome B-)

And the quote makes me snigger >:) Quote:

    Nolite te bastardes carborundorum.

    Bwa ha. >:)

PS If I win, can I have a voucher to somewhere that doesn't charge more to post me the book than the value of the gift cert? O:) :P *is a picky twin* O:)

PPS YUNA!!! The verification word is termoni! It's nearly your book!! *bounces*
