The Finish Line

2009 NaNoWriMo done!

*throws confetti and parties*

*sits back down and pulls out stats*

Yes, I have more than 50k. Yes, I crossed the finish line. But, ouch! That's my worst NaNo showing in the three years I've tried.

In years past I've been near 75,000 words every time. Well over 60k, bare minimum. This year it was all I could do to hit that 50,000 word mark. And the story isn't to blame!

Let's look at my graph. The black dotted line is the NaNo 1,667 words/day line. The green line is where I actually was.

I started slow and -gasp & horror - there are several plateaus. I flat lined. Especially toward the end. I just... stopped writing. Thanksgiving hit and I didn't do anything. RL sucker punched me and I didn't write in retaliation.

Honestly, I'm very disappointed with my performance this year. I can write 75k in a month. I've done it on numerous occasions. I know better than to let the excuses pile up or slow me down.

So now what? I keep writing, dashitall. I want to finish the novel, even though it means I need another 50,000 words. I have all December to write in.

How did you do?

  1. I'm proud of myself for finishing nano. :0) I can't wait to revise and I'm pretty psyched about finishing a rough draft. :0)

You go girl, keep at it. As Penelope Cruz said in Vanilla Sky..."every passing moment is another chance to turn it all around" :0)

  2. You're a perfectionist, Liana. STOP IT. ;)
You did amazing! You wrote 10k more words than thousands of over people. Statistics prove that this year is more busy than any in history. (Actually they don't, but this is a personal hypothesis, and provable! I think.)
You're amazing! You beat the clock, and that's all that matters about NaNo.
I was glad with my work. Reached 50k, and I have about 10-15k more to go. :D

  3. Please don't beat yourself up- you finished! What a reward! I did come close but not close enough. Though, I love what I learned from the experience was invaluable.

I would do it all over again!

  5. good job! the fact that you finished When RL threw you a curve ball is an accomplishment on top of the winners circle.

This was my first NaNoWriMo and I passed the line and barely finished my rough draft. I have a ton of research to do now for the edits :)When I sit down and do it, it takes me a month to do a rough draft. It takes months to successfully edit!
