I'm glad I'm an American

For personal reasons I've been watching the elections in Iran very closely. More than I watched the American elections in November.

This kind of drama is why I'm glad I'm an American.

Yes, our elections get kind of crazy. Everyone has a side. People get passionate. But we don't have to behead anyone or threaten to arrest anyone to get a change of leaders.

The one redeeming factor our elected leaders have is the willingness to give up power when the vote goes against them. Right or wrong, for better or worse, we don't have a civil war every four years.

Hopefully Iran won't get pushed to that point. There are some good people over there and they don't deserve this kind of grief from their politicos.

  1. Interesting. I also followed the link to the photo essay on elections in North Korea. At least in Iran they *pretend* to have someone else on the ballot.
