Starting a new series is always a bit terrifying. There's no guarantee fans of previous books will like the new ones. There's always a good chance the new series will fail to catch anyone's attention or find a fan base of its own. Overall, it's nerve-wracking to put Book 1 of a new series out on the shelves. It might be worse when it is Book 1 and people cheerfully tell you they'll wait until the entire series is out before they buy any of them.
Despite all my worries, release day went very well. THE DAY BEFORE isn't an Amazon bestseller yet, but it's in the top 100 on Kobo (thank you, Canada!) and selling strong at local retailers. Several of you sent photos from the bookshops yesterday and that was awesome!
And, for those who read the newsletter, there was a secret giveaway hidden in there. A few of you have found it, and I have prizes waiting for a few more people who maybe didn't get a chance to read the newsletter yet.
The secret giveaway will probably become a feature of the newsletter. It's all based on luck. Scientist Richard Wiseman studied luck and found it's mostly about looking for opportunities, taking chances. In support of that theory the giveaway in each newsletter will be in plain sight. If you read the newsletter, you'll be able to find it with ease. :)
Now, it is summer break, and the sun is shining, so I'm taking the kids to the park for a picnic. What are you doing today?
